DNA virus vs. RNA virus
|DNA virus||RNA virus|
|DNA viruses have DNA as their genetic material and replicates using a DNA-dependent DNA polymerase.
The nucleic acid is usually double-stranded DNA but may also be single-stranded DNA (ssDNA).
|RNA viruses have RNA as their genetic material and replicates using a RNA-dependent RNA polymerase.
The nucleic acid is usually single-stranded RNA (ssRNA) but may also be double-stranded RNA.
DNA mutation rate is lower than RNA
RNA mutation rate is higher than DNA
Replication of DNA takes place in nucleus
Replication of RNA takes place in cytoplasm
|virus inject their DNA into host DNA for duplication and decoding||RNA viruses skip this step|
Properties, mechanism of infection diseases etc. will be updated soon.
